Pay As You Save on energy efficiencySpotted an article in the Home Section of the Sunday Times (that section doesn’t seem to be on the web so I can’t post a link) referring to a Pay As You Save energy efficiency retrofitting proposal being lobbied for by Construct Ireland. See more about it here from the Construct Ireland website. Since it has similarities with a suggestion I made here last February it caught my attention. A similar scheme has now been proposed by the Conservative Party in the UK so if they get in next time we should see it up and running. It makes so much sense and in fact they have gone one step further than I suggested in making it more attractive to take up as the user does get cost savings immediately. The proposals in terms of how it could work practically through energy utility suppliers rather than direct government grant are also sensible. After all we’re all set up already to pay utility companies. Even if a house is sold it is suggested that the new owner takes over repayments since they will actually be getting the advantages of better energy efficiency. One challenge to be overcome is how consumers can change energy supplier is they are currently under contract to repay them for work done. However this is surely not an insurmountable challenge if utility companies choose to find a process to make it work. Add a CommentYour comment will appear once it has been approved. |
