You know corporate responsibility has gone mainstream when the soaps start talking about itI have a guilty secret – I’m an Archers fan. Most evenings at 7.02pm I listen on my kitchen radio while cooking dinner. The Archers as many of you may know was originally conceived as a way of imparting good agricultural practices to the British farming community in the post war era when efficient food production was seen as critical. It depicts a rural community and like most soap operas is a reflection of topical issues. It was no surprise therefore when the slightly shifty businessman Matt Crawford came under investigation from the Serious Fraud Office. In fact it seemed like an obvious case of ‘get the bad guy’ sentiment. So it was interesting last week to hear another character, usually portrayed as a selfish fat-cat farmer, waxing lyrically about how businesses were a part of the community and needed to be socially aware. Let's see if he really means it. Add a CommentYour comment will appear once it has been approved. |
